Little and often

Writer: katherine4443katherine4443

I recently decided to join in the MNDA ‘Craft a day’ challenge. This charity does such valuable work in helping people diagnosed with Motor Neurone Disease and their families. Sadly I know a few people who have been impacted by this cruel illness and so I felt this was a small way I might be able to help raise some support and awareness. I decided to do a botanical line drawing and a colour match collage each day throughout March and I have actually carried on doing both of these exercises in April too.  They are a little bit addictive!

If you fancied dipping your toes into the pond of creativity then this is a lovely exercise to try. With a daily practice you will feel less pressure and it helps to squash those worries about making a ‘mistake’ which can be paralysing and can often stop you from even beginning.  If things don't go to plan (and they won’t!) then you can just have another go again tomorrow.  I have had my fair share of ropey looking drawings and odd colour combinations on these pages but it is so satisfying to flick through a full, fat sketchbook and see all my practices rather than having a pristine one sat idle because I was too scared to use it! A daily art habit means that whatever you decide to create it is just one of many.  You don’t even need to show them to anyone; they can just be something that you do for you.  So, next time you are waiting for the kettle to boil why not grab a pad of paper or the back of a bank statement and have a doodle! You have nothing to lose and you never know where it may lead…. I'd love to hear how you get on, why not send me an e-mail and let me know!

I’m a big fan of your art work. The picture was really well packed and quick delivery. I am so pleased with the picture. I find it very calming, which is really good for my much needed relaxation time. The reflections on the sea are just amazing. I will be looking forward to purchasing another one.
