Then and now...

Writer: katherine4443katherine4443

I recently came across something that made me smile (and cringe slightly!)- it was a painting of a duck I did back in 2011. I created this at a point in my life when I decided to try painting again following a break for many years.  This first attempt was a start (and starting is often the hardest bit!) but I felt I could do better so I thought I would try painting my feathered friend again to see how my approach has changed over the years. Just for clarity the one on the left came first! I found that I am now quicker at capturing a bird in paint and also realised that a combination of different marks were important to give energy to the piece. I shared this visual comparison with a lovely group who recently attended my Garden Bird painting workshop to illustrate that it is never too late to come back to creativity and practice really does make progress.

If you are interested in learning more about my beginners painting workshops, held at Just Makers in Ripley Castle Courtyard then simply visit the workshop tab here on my website or click on the link. I’d love to see you there!
